DRE In-Service

Length:  8  hours

Effective 6/17/2009 Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) will no longer be issuing certification numbers for specialized training courses. Those courses that have already been assigned a certification number will be submitted to P.O.S.T. for credits. Certificate of completion and course agenda are the only documents required for future courses.
Please contact Jerry Tucker, GHSO State Training Coordinator at predatornine@aol.com if you have any questions.

As specified in section III of the International Standards of the Drug Evaluation and Classification Program~ all drug recognition experts must be recertified every two years following original certification.

A DRE shall demonstrate continuing proficiency by:

(1) Performing a minimum of four (4) acceptable evaluations since the date of last certification~ all of which shall be reviewed and approved by a certified DRE instructor and one (1) of which shall be witnessed by a certified DRE instructor. These evaluations may be performed on subjects suspected of drug and/or alcohol impairment or during classroom simulations; and

(2) Completing a minimum of eight hours of IACP recertification training since the date of the DRE’s most recent certification~ which may alternatively be presented in two sessions of no less than four hours~ and which shall be consistent with any IACP standards for such training; and

(3) Presenting an updated resume and rolling log to the agency coordinator or his designee for review.

A certified DRE instructor shall maintain instructor certification so long as DRE certification is maintained. This recertification will be valid for two years from the DRE’s last expiration date.

PLEASE NOTE: According to the revised Standards~ if you choose to grant a one-year extension (formerly the “grace period”)~ the DRE will be allowed up to a year to complete recertification~ but the status of the DRE’s certification will NOT be active.

If a DRE is not going to be recertified and that record needs to be removed from our active database~ please fill out the “DRE UPDATE FORM” and email to (rm_holt@frontiernet.net) or fax to 931-456-6638 so that we may update our records.
