Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) School

 *NOTE: No blue jeans, shorts, or t-shirts are allowed on the THP Training Academy's premises.

 Special Instructions:

1.  Pre-requisites

a.  Must be proficient in SFST (Standardized Field Sobriety Testing)

b. Must have successfully completed and been recommended by ARIDE Instructor (Certificate must be included with application.) The online ARIDE program is not accepted in Tennessee as a prerequisite for DRE, it must be taken in Tennessee in a live classroom.  No exception.

c. Letter or Email of Support from CEO of agency and Supervisor, stating they understand the DRE program and will support the DRE once training is complete.

d. Letter or Email of support from the ADA that prosecutes Impaired Driving Cases from the agency local office.

e. Completed Application

2.  Equipment required

a.  Beginning on the first day of the main school student must have a laptop computer, capable to access the internet via WiFi, appropriate software to use MS Word, read PDF files and Excel documents.

3. Be able to commit to the Field Certification dates. Transportation and lodging will be provided by GHSO, per diem for meals must be provided by trainees agency.

4. Complete travel documents sent by State Coordinator prior to training date.

5. 2 Day Pre-School and 7 Day Main School. No class held on July 19th and 20th weekend.
