Georgia Joins East Coast States In Summer Safe Driving Initiative
“Border to Border” campaign will kick off Click It or Ticket from Maine to Florida

WHAT: To help ensure a safe kick off to Memorial Day week and the unofficial start of summer, NHTSA is partnering with every state along the east coast to remind motorists to buckle up. The “Border to Border” initiative will launch in conjunction with the traditional May campaign of Click It or Ticket, which focuses on seatbelt safety for the Memorial Day holiday.
Speakers will be departing for Border to Border media events in other markets near state lines immediately following the news conference. Event will begin promptly at 10 a.m.

WHY: So far in 2015, Georgia’s traffic deaths are up approximately 20 percent from this time last year. Many of those deaths involved single car crashes with unbelted drivers. Overall, impaired-driving crashes account for nearly 25 percent of Georgia’s traffic fatalities and in 2014, the state experienced more than 8,500 distracted driving crashes.
