State Officials and Local Employers Say “Thumbs Down”
to Texting & Driving during Distracted Driving Awareness Month
Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee Governor’s Highway Safety Office will join the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security and representatives from the Coca Cola Bottling Company Consolidated to highlight April as Distracted Driving Awareness Month and to educate Tennesseans on the dangers of driving distracted. The press event will take place Tuesday, April 7th at the James K. Polk Building.
During the event, the Governor’s Highway Safety Office will discuss their new “Thumbs Down to Texting and Driving” campaign. To support this initiative, local employers and partners will be displaying decals to discourage texting and driving and conducting distracted driving pledge sign-ups. Research from the National Safety Council shows that motor vehicle crashes are the number one cause of work-related deaths, and drivers using cell phones are four times as likely to crash.
