Tennessee and Alabama Partner for Hands Across the Border
States Working Together to Save Lives

Hazel Green, Ala. – The Tennessee Governor’s Highway Safety Office is teaming up with law enforcement agencies across Tennessee and Alabama to reduce roadway fatalities through enforcement. Representatives from both states will hold an event tomorrow to announce a roadside checkpoint on U.S. 231 along the state line.

The checkpoint will take place Friday, August 15th from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Safety advocates created the Hands Across the Border campaign in 1991 to bring about more awareness of safety belt and child safety seat use across the southeastern states. Each year, Tennessee partners with bordering states to crack down on traffic violators that are speeding, driving impaired or not wearing a safety belt.
