TENNESSEE – Last month, the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) joined State Farm Insurance, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), and Reduce TN Crashes to present its Gold Award to high schools in Tennessee that earned 3,000 points during the 2016-2017 school year for working to reduce teen crashes in their communities. “The THSO is pleased to congratulate these award winners for their achievements,” said THSO Director Vic Donoho. “Their active participation proves that our youth can truly make a difference and help save lives on Tennessee roadways. Our hope is that other teens become inspired to follow in their footsteps.”

On May 23, Walker Valley High School (WVHS) received the Gold Award for earning a total of 3,925 points. Students accumulated points by actively participating in their SADD program, creating a teen public service announcement, executing a distracted-driving crash reenactment, and more.

“These students displayed great leadership skills and have shown how much they care about their peers,” said April Richards, teacher and SADD leader at WVHS. “They’re the front runners in advocating teen driver safety and spreading awareness about distracted driving. It's an honor to work with this special group.”

Other Gold Award winners included Cookeville High School (3,700 points), David Crockett High School (3,600 points), and Gibson County High School (3,050 points). To view the full scoreboard of participating high schools from the 2016-2017 school year, visit http://reducetncrashes.org/schools.
