This class will teach basics of planning and conducting sobriety checkpoints in Tennessee.
Upon completion of the class the attendees will be able to:
- Define checkpoint
- Identify the Fourth Amendment of the United States
- Identify the two case laws that established guidelines for checkpoints in Tennessee
- Identify the 13 steps needed to establish a lawful checkpoint in Tennessee
- Define General Order 410-1
- List at least 5 of 8 things to consider when planning and conducting checkpoints
- Identify who approves checkpoints and their locations
- Describe notification to the public process
- List who supervises checkpoints and their role
- Identify personnel needed for checkpoints
- Identify equipment needed for checkpoints
- Describe manner that checkpoints will be setup
- Identify the times of operation required to conduct checkpoints
- Define pre-checkpoint briefing and the requirements of
- Identify who and how to report data from checkpoints
