The Tennessee Highway Safety Office and the University of Tennessee hosted almost seventy judges and related professionals at the Impaired Driving Symposium for Tennessee Judges held in Franklin on July 14, 2025. The no cost all day educational event was attended by judges from every Grand Division. Those judges represented the Municipal, General Sessions and Circuit/Criminal Court judiciary. Staff from the Court of Criminal Appeals also attended.
Speakers from both Tennessee and across the nation gave presentations on a wide range of topics, including: 1) data collection and trends regarding impaired driving and crashes; 2) the protocols for forensic testing of specimens submitted to the TBI Crime Lab; 3) the correlation of the impaired driving case in the civilian and military justice system; 4) a review of new Tennessee impaired driving statutes, and; 5) emerging trends in treatment for repeat offenders.
A second symposium is being planned now to take place in Knoxville on July 12-13, 2026. More information will soon be released.
