Bike/Ped Safety, Distracted Driving, Teen Driver Safety

David Francisco’s journey from a tragic crash to triumph is nothing short of miraculous. At just 24 years old, David’s life was forever changed when a distracted driver ran a red light and broadsided him while he was riding his bicycle. The impact left him instantly paralyzed from the waist down, with doctors telling him he would never walk again. But David refused to accept this fate.

For over a year, David worked tirelessly through grueling physical therapy, pushing his body and spirit beyond the limits. Against all odds, David defied expectations and regained the ability to walk—something that was once thought impossible.

David’s story of resilience and hope reached a global audience in 2018 when it was featured on American Idol. The segment captivated millions, garnering over 80 million views worldwide, and has since become an inspiration to many.

But David’s mission didn’t stop there. He made it his life's purpose to share his incredible journey with high school students across the state of Tennessee. As an advocate against distracted driving, David’s impactful presentations aim to raise awareness and save lives. Through his heartfelt talks, he warns students about the dangers of distracted driving and the potential consequences of such reckless actions.

David’s engaging presentations combine video footage from his recovery, personal stories, and live music performances of songs he wrote during his rehabilitation. His powerful performances and emotional connection with students have made him a beacon of hope and inspiration. So far, David has spoken to over 35,000 students in more than 100 schools.

Currently, David is a full-time music producer based in Los Angeles, where he continues to pursue his passion for music. Despite his success in the music industry, he regularly returns to Tennessee to speak to students and share his story on behalf of the Tennessee Highway Safety Office, and the non-profit organization Celebrate Overcoming.
