GENERAL INFORMATION

The Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) Training Program sponsors training opportunities to assist highway safety professionals in staying up-to-date on best practices, new methods, emerging issues, legislation, law enforcement, and more. THSO training is available at no cost to those individuals who are interested and meet current course prerequisite requirements. Note: Hotel accommodations, mileage, and per diem are not offered as part of the training. Classes with less than 15 students are subject to cancellation unless approved by the Training Coordinator. No agency can comprise more than 20% of the entire class.

The Tennessee Highway Safety Office is committed to providing law enforcement officials, judicial, prosecutors and certain community advocates with the latest information, best practices and training to effectively enforce, uphold, and communicate traffic safety.

THSO training is divided into three tracks:

Track I – Law Enforcement Only
Track II – Law Enforcement/Non-Law Enforcement
Track III - Judicial

Law enforcement officials seeking Peace Officers Standards of Training, (P.O.S.T.) certified credits are encouraged to apply. Students participating in courses offered under the law enforcement tract will receive POST credits.

Prosecutors, DAs, ADAs, and Judges participating in judicial tract courses will receive CLE credits.

Community advocates who fully attend and successfully complete a child passenger safety course will receive a certificate of completion. All other Non-Law Enforcement Students will receive a certificate of attendance only.

THSO Training is available free to those individuals who are interested and meet current course prerequisite requirements. Hotel accommodations, mileage, and per diem are not offered as part of the training.

Classes with less than 10 students are subject to cancellation unless approved by THSO Director.

Each participant who fully attends and successfully completes a course will receive a certificate of completion. Students must attend the entire class and actively participate to receive a certificate.
